Dear Cornelia,

I would like to thank you in writing for the wonderful Halloween activity morning that I and 10 children from Aktive Naturschule experienced.

It was a big, important experience in itself that the children had a morning in another school that is very different from our own.  They were impressed with the friendliness and helpfulness of the children in Diesterweg.

The Halloween morning seemed to me very well organised and each station was interesting, engaging the children’s active attention, without them being under pressure. I was impressed that the children navigated their own way around, following instructions from their own group’s written guide to the morning.

It was indeed a useful experience for me for gathering some fresh ideas and approaches. 

I was particularly impressed with your method of teaching a song in combination with drawings that are used as a reminder of the lyrics.  If felt the children developed a sense of ownership and involvement through drawing the lyrics themselves, while not being overly challenged, which may have occurred if they had to listen and write at the same time. 

I was inspired by the eleven word poems.  The children could have an easily achievable sense of success while enjoying creative writing.  This seemed like a very worthwhile tool for developing vocabulary. 

The bingo game, also was a reminder for me of a fun way of developing vocabulary.  It also gave me a tip as to a method that does not need so much preparation, as the children made their own bingo table, selecting from the cards that were available.

The gathering in the hall at the end had a festive atmosphere and results from the day’s activities were shared, sampled and celebrated. 

Thanks once more for the enriching experience for me and the children.
